Effective date: September 18, 2026
1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and LOK, LLC d/b/a Tap Sigil ("Tap Sigil", "we", "us", or "our"), the company that operates the Sigil™ service ("Sigil", the "Service"). By creating an account, tapping a Sigil sticker, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference.
If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility and minimum age
You may use the Service only if you can form a binding contract with us and are not barred from doing so under applicable law.
You must be at least 12 years old to use Sigil. If you are a minor where you live, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. See the Privacy Policy §9 for how we handle children's information.
3. What Sigil is
Sigil is a lending tracker built around NFC stickers you attach to your belongings. Tapping a sticker with a phone triggers a lend, borrow, or return, and lets a finder contact the item's owner — without any manual lookup. Sigil lets you see what you own, what you have lent out, and what your friends have made available to borrow.
Some facts about the Service that these Terms rely on:
- Stickers are passive NFC tags. They contain no GPS, no live location tracking, and no batteries. A tap only happens when someone physically taps a sticker with a phone.
- The custody ledger is the system of record. Every borrow, return, hand-off, and claim is recorded as an event. Because these records also describe other people's lending activity, some of them are retained even after you delete your account (see Section 6 and the Privacy Policy §§6–7).
- Owner-contact choices. When a non-owner taps your sticker, you control what they see. You can offer a contact channel (WhatsApp, SMS, or email), or stay anonymous and let a finder reach you through an in-app message relay that never exposes your phone number or email. See the Privacy Policy §§2.h, 4.
The Service is provided as a tool to help people track and coordinate lending. We are not a party to any loan, sale, rental, or other arrangement between users, and we do not take custody of, insure, or guarantee any item.
4. Your account
Account sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Clerk. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your sign-in method and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.
You agree that the information you provide (such as your name, and where you choose to provide them, your phone number and email) is accurate and kept up to date. How that information is handled is described in the Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
- Tap, claim, borrow, or mark returned any sticker or item without authorization from the item's owner or current holder.
- Use the finder message relay or any contact feature to harass, threaten, spam, defraud, or stalk another person.
- Attempt to identify an owner or finder who has chosen to remain anonymous, or otherwise defeat the Service's privacy protections.
- Forge, clone, tamper with, or reverse-engineer sticker tokens, or probe, scrape, or overload the Service (including its tap and messaging endpoints).
- Upload or store content that is illegal, infringing, or that you do not have the right to store.
- Misrepresent your identity or your relationship to an item.
We may investigate and take appropriate action, including removing content, suspending, or terminating accounts, for conduct that violates this Section.
6. Your content and lending records
Your content. You retain ownership of the content you add — item names, categories, locations (free-text labels you type, not GPS coordinates), colors, notes, and any messages you send. You grant Tap Sigil a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and display that content solely to operate the Service for you and the people you lend to or borrow from.
Lending / custody records. The custody ledger is the source of truth for who holds what, and its records necessarily reference other users. As described in the Privacy Policy §§6–7, when you delete your account we remove your identity from records that also belong to other users (for example, your name in a counterparty's lending history is replaced with "Deleted user") rather than delete the other person's history.
Responsibility for content. You are responsible for the content you store and the messages you send. Do not store content you are not permitted to store.
7. Stickers, purchases, and payments
- The Sigil app is free to use for consumers.
- Sigils are a one-time purchase. You may buy Sigil stickers through our store. Payment is processed by Stripe on Stripe's own hosted checkout page; we never receive or store your full payment card number (see the Privacy Policy §4).
- No refunds. All sticker purchases are final and non-refundable, except where a refund is required by applicable law.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, including the Sigil name and logo, the software, the sticker designs and artwork, and all related content we provide, is owned by Tap Sigil or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for the rights expressly granted to you to use the Service, no license or right is granted.
Copyright / DMCA. If you believe content on the Service infringes your
copyright, you may notify us at [email protected].
9. Third-party services
The Service depends on third-party providers to function. These include, at a minimum:
- Clerk — account authentication.
- Stripe — payment processing for the sticker store.
- Anthropic — structuring a spoken item description into fields (the voice-assist feature).
- Apple and Google — app distribution, push-notification delivery, and on-device speech-to-text.
- Expo — push-notification delivery.
- Cloudflare and Fly.io — content storage/DNS and hosting.
Your use of those providers' functionality may also be subject to their own terms. What data each provider receives is described in the Privacy Policy §4. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our control.
10. Disclaimers
The Service helps people coordinate borrowing and returns. It does not in any way guarantee that any item will be returned, returned undamaged, or returned on time, and it is not a party to any arrangement between users.
11. Termination and account deletion
You may stop using the Service at any time. You can permanently delete your account and data:
- In the app: Profile → Delete Account; or
- On the web: the public deletion page at Delete Account (useful if you no longer have the app installed; links published against the old domains keep working — they redirect permanently to this page).
Deletion is described in detail in the Privacy Policy §7.
We may suspend or terminate your access for violations of these Terms or to protect the Service or its users.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of these Terms and provide notice.
